Harvest, harmonic aspect
160°, 4/9
The quadranovile is a 160° aspect, four ninths of the circle, 20° short of an opposition. Harmonic astrologers in John Addey’s line read it as two far-apart planets learning to serve one long-term aim; keep the orb tight and check the reading against how the person has actually joined those parts of life.
The quadranovile is the fourth member of the ninth harmonic series (4 × 40° = 160°) and sits close to the opposition, yet carries the novile series' quality of completion rather than the opposition's polarity. It describes a synthesis in which previously separate principles are gathered into a single, blessed wholeness — a harvest at the edge of a cycle's close.
Developmental arc
Gathering the threads of a long process into conscious synthesis. The quadranovile marks the threshold where scattered development resolves into a unified, spiritually ripe understanding.
A rare sense of fulfilment and integration in the matters governed by the planets. The native may, at maturity, embody a quality of wholeness that others experience as benediction or presence.
A reluctance to let the cycle complete, or a sense that the harvest is always almost-but-not-yet within reach. Can manifest as a spiritual perfectionism that resists final integration.
A lasting pattern in one person
A rare, high-order indicator of eventual synthesis. Most legible at tight orbs and in charts with other strong ninth-harmonic signatures.
A moving planet meets a natal one
At tight orbs, can coincide with moments of genuine completion — the felt sense of a long arc resolving into wholeness.
One person’s planet meets another’s
A connection with a quality of destined synthesis — two people whose union feels like the gathering of a long-scattered whole.

In the sky now
Pairs among the Sun, Moon and planets within 3° of an exact quadranovile, measured from Earth right now.
A quadranovile, sometimes spelled quadrinovile, joins two planets 160° apart: four steps of 40° around the circle. It belongs to the 9th harmonic, the family that includes the trine, and harmonic astrologers following John Addey read that family as enjoyment and ease developed through commitment into an ideal. What sets this member apart is its width. The two planets sit almost opposite each other, so the question becomes how two distant parts of a life can come to serve the same purpose.
Look for two unrelated-looking roles or interests the person has gradually brought together. With Mercury quadranovile Pluto that might be a surgeon who also writes, and who in mid-career starts publishing clear accounts of operations. Older copy speaks of "benediction"; the checkable claim is that a long process joins two far-apart areas in one project.

It counts
Four ninths of 360° is 160°. Since 4/9 cannot be reduced, the quadranovile belongs to the 9th harmonic itself and becomes a conjunction in the 9th-harmonic chart. The series is novile 40°, binovile 80°, trinovile 120° (the trine) and quadranovile 160°; the fifth step, 200°, is the same angle measured the other way. The navamsa of Vedic astrology, which cuts each sign into nine parts of 3°20′, is arithmetically a 9th-harmonic chart, so planets in quadranovile fall in the same or nearby navamsa signs. That is a mathematical parallel between two separate traditions, nothing more.
The neighbourhood is crowded. The quincunx sits 10° below at 150°, the triseptile about 5°43′ below at 154°17′, and the opposition 20° above. Ricki Reeves used the name "quindecile" for 165°, 5° above; this site’s quindecile is a different, 24° angle. With a 1°30′ orb none of these overlap, but a wide orb would blur them.
A 160° gap spans five or six signs. Five apart, as in the example below, gives two signs in Hellenistic aversion: Aries (Fire, cardinal, yang) and Virgo (Earth, mutable, yin) share nothing. Six apart gives opposite signs, as with 29° Aries and 9° Libra, both cardinal and yang. With no set sign pattern, "out-of-sign" does not apply. Natally, the Sun–Mercury, Sun–Venus and Mercury–Venus pairs can never reach 160°.
Applying or separating? The Sun moves about 1° a day and Neptune barely moves. Moving forward, the Sun eats into the 159° gap toward Neptune, taking it further below 160°, so the quadranovile is separating; it was exact roughly a day earlier. An outer planet this close to opposing the Sun is normally retrograde, and Neptune’s slow backward drift shrinks the gap too, confirming the separation. In a little over a week the pair will reach a quincunx.
The quadranovile exists as an aspect because of harmonic theory: Addey’s 1976 "Harmonics in Astrology" gave each division of the circle its own character, and Hamblin’s "Harmonic Charts" (1983) read the 9th-harmonic chart as a whole.
Older approaches read the same pair quite differently. Hellenistic astrologers would see Aries and Virgo as averse, unable to see each other, and two opposite signs as an opposition by sign. William Lilly’s orbs predate Neptune altogether; even the Sun’s half-orb of about 7½° on its own would stretch a 160° contact past the triseptile and Reeves’s 165°. Modern flat-orb practice keeps harmonic aspects to 1–2°, and Ebertin’s cosmobiology, focused on the 8th harmonic, does not use this angle.

No. At 160° it is 20° from the opposition, far outside that aspect’s orb. Harmonic astrologers treat it as a separate 9th-harmonic contact with a co-operative rather than polarised character.
Yes. Both spellings refer to four noviles, 160°. The catalog uses quadranovile.
No more than the other members of its series. At a 1°30′ orb a typical chart has a little under one on average, so many people have one.
